An Oldie, But A Goodie…
For those that have any background in the conspiracy research “field,” Saint Malachy and his “Prophecy of the Popes” is likely known to you, for everyone else, allow me to elaborate. Saint Malachy was the Archbishop of Armagh and was the first native-born Irish saint to be canonized. Several miracles were attributed to him, but what is relevant here is what has come to be known as the “Prophecy of the Popes.” There have been claims of forgery regarding this “prophecy,” but the Catholic Church has made no official statement regarding it which is odd. They could dismiss the “prophecy” with a statement, but have not, despite its first being published in 1595.
What Does It Say?
The “Prophecy of the Popes” is a list of 112 short, cryptic phrases in Latin, each supposedly relating to a specific Pope beginning with Celestine II, and ending with the last Pope, Petrus Romanus. The reason is ends with him is because as Wikipedia states, “In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit [i.e., as bishop]. Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills [i.e. Rome] will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The End.” Arnold Wion first wrote of the “prophecy” in the book, Lignum Vitæ, He attributed the “prophecy” to Saint Malachy, and explained that the prophecy had not, to his knowledge, ever been printed, but added that “many were eager to see it.”
Accuracy…
The descriptions of the Popes that were listed before the publication date were very detailed, while those after the publication date were not as easily applied to the Pope they were supposed to correspond to. This is the main argument that this “prophecy” is in fact a forgery, however, there have been surprising correlations between the Latin phrases and the Popes throughout time, enough that this “prophecy” continues to be referenced in the “conspiracy circles.” Regarding Pope Benedict, who retired in February of 2103, making the way for the current Pope, his saying according to the “prophecy,” was, “Gloria Olivae,” which means “the glory of the olive.” The order of Saint Benedict is also known as the Olivetans, which could be seen to make Malachy’s prophecies correct. That would make the current Pope “Peter Romanus,” making it worth noting, that the father of the current pope was Pietro, or Peter, and was from Italy even though the family moved to Argentina.
So, What Is Your Point?
According to the Express U.K., “Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said the Pontiff will visit Baghdad, Iraq’s capital, and Ur, a city linked to the Old Testament figure of Abraham. The 83-year-old will also head to Erbil, Mosul, and Qaraqosh in the Nineveh plains, during his trip in March 2021.” This is from an article titled “‘Final piece’ of 900-year-old doomsday prophecy exposed as Pope Francis plans Iraq trip.” And if you are someone like me, that title caught my eye. In the article, Ivereigh pointed out a speech made by the Pope where he said he would have “a short papacy of about five years,” but then went on to say, “What I’m hearing now from people close to him is that he’s going to need seven years to achieve his five-year plan and that, of course, would mean staying on until 2020.” Seven years huh?

Here at MOTBR, we only look at sources outside of the Bible for help understanding current events in light of the Bible. We think it important to note that God loves every one of us and wants none to perish, and He works in many different ways to reach people. If this “prophecy” leads someone to learn about Him and what He teaches about the end of time, then to us, it is worth looking at, regardless of the source. The fact that it has been shown to be eerily accurate in the descriptions of the Popes throughout the years, and that somehow, it is at the end of the list at the same time as everything else that is going on in the world, to us makes it relevant enough to write about. The Pope making the first-ever trip to Iraq, has its own relevance, especially considering him also being the first Pope to ever go to Saudi Arabia as well. I guess it is only time that will tell if this “prophecy” is true, or not, but to us, if someone is declared the “messiah,” or “god on earth,” it would seem obvious that there would be no need for a Pope anymore…
